YUSHINKAN Iaido:
Yushinkan is a dojo based in Dumbarton and Newton Mearns where we study the traditional Japanese martial art of Iaido, the art of drawing the Japanese (samurai) sword.
Classes at our Newton Mearns Dojo take place every Sunday at 9am-10am (get there a little early for warm up!). Please get in touch if you'd like to come along and give it a try. Classes in Dumbarton take place on a Thursday 6pm-7pm at the Concord Community Centre, Town Centre, Dumbarton, G82 1L J beginning Thursday 6th April 2023.
Training starts slowly with advice and guidance focusing on correct form and technique. Later, as you progress you can consider entering competitions and taking a grading, however this is not compulsory. It takes time to learn new skills and we accept that you will not be able to attend every training session- we understand that family and work activities come first. It is permissible for everyday loose clothing to be worn during the early stages of training subject to the advice of the Dojo Leader. No footwear is worn during Iaido training other than for medical reasons. All other equipment is provided for new members.
Fees - our cost is £5 per session and as a ‘not for profit’ organisation your contribution is used for the hire of halls and dojo certification with the BKA – instruction is given for free. There is no joining fee but once you have decided to stay you will need to become a member of the British Kendo Association to cover your insurance, seminar attendance and grading requirements. Interested? - the first session is free!
Please Contact Donnie by email if you'd like more information on joining a class.
